YELAGIRI HILLS STATION

Yelagiri is a hill station in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, India, situated off the Vaniyambadi-Tirupattur road. Yelagiri or Elagiri is a small hill station located in between the towns of Vaniyambadi and Jolarpettai (Tamil Nadu, India). The hill station dates back to the British colonial days. However, the district administration has now taken up the task of developing Yelagiri Hills into a tourist destination by promoting adventure sports such as paragliding and rock climbing.


PUNGANOOR LAKE

Punganoor Lake is one of the few manmade lakes located in India and is situated in the district of Yelagiri around 250 km from the city of Chennai. The district is a hill station full of beauty and is around 1400 mts above sea level. The lake is around 57 sq meters in area and is an excellent place for boating and rowing. Most visitors to the Hills do take a short walk from their hotels and perhaps go on a boat ride here. Picnicking isn't allowed here and there is an entry fee to enter the lake and park.

SWAMI MALAI

Swami Malai hills are the hills in the shape of cake with a strong base at the bottom and a high peak. Trekking is an attraction at Swami Malai (3 km to and 3 km fro). This trek leads one to a small peak from where the entire valley is visible. The highest point in Yelgiri is the Swami Malai Hill, standing tall at 4,338 ft; Swami Malai is a popular destination for trekkers. The view from the summit is spectacular. The hill provides a good number of trekking trails through thick reserved forests. Mangalam, a small village, is at the base of this hill.

VELAVAN TEMPLE

Velavan Temple is one of the famous religious places in Yelagiri. It was built in the remembrance of Lord Murugan. The architectural beauty of this temple is tremendous. The peaceful surrounding of the temple offers great peace of mind. The place has a unique importance in the lives of most of the devotees here.


NATURE PARK

Spread in an area of 12 acres, the Nature Park is an alluring place. Numbers of travelers love to enjoy a great weekend here. The park comprises of a garden, bamboo house, poly house and several other attractive things. It is a perfect place for both kids and elders. To enhance your joy, there is music fountain as well. One will also find a fish aquarium inside the park which contains assortments of fish and tortoises.

JALAGAMPARAI WATER FALLS

Jalagamparai Water Falls is located in the Yelagiri hills of the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. Flowing down from a breath taking height of 15 meters, the place is popular among lovebirds. Created by the Attaru river, which flows through the Yelagiri hills. Jalagamparai Water Falls is a beautiful spot for picnic. The falls can be reached after a 1 hour trek of 6 km from Nilavoor. Best time to visit the falls is after the monsoon rains.

KAVALUR OBSERVATORY

The Vainu Bappu Observatory, or VBO for short, is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by Indian Institute of Astrophysics. It is located in the Javadi Hills Kavalur, near vaniyambadi of Vellore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, 200 km south-west of Chennai & 175 km south-east of Bangalore. This place is also informally called "Telescope City". The nearest railway station is Vaniyambadi and is about 29 km from here.
